From the outset of the process, the client expressed her sincere desire to build a warm, inviting and distinctly different home for her practice. Located in Manheim Township, the modest two thousand square foot space within an existing professional condominium structure provided the boundary in which to formulate the design. An extensive set of programmatic building components were requested including a living room-like waiting area, clerical/reception space, business manager office, practitioner’s office, laboratory, sterilization room, x-ray room, five dental procedure rooms, and an employee lounge. Implementing a rigidly economical planning strategy, each spatial element was organized along a central arcade placing service areas against the condominium party-wall and accessible public areas to the exterior. Gaining the health and visual benefits of daylight, natural material applications, and warm earth-tone colors, patients and care-givers alike are treated to a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere. Moreover, utilization of repetitive design elements and the strategic, but efficient employment of high-value materials create an impression of expansiveness and sophistication.
