Lancaster, PA // Renovation – Addition // 2008
Stemming from the desire to transform a small 1950’s brick Cape Cod into a modern cottage in suburban Lancaster County, this couple sought the design expertise of TONO Architects to lead the rejuvenation. The owners desired a livable contemporary feel for their home, lending itself to entertaining guests and expanding the home to include a garage with workshop and a private master retreat. Through the relocation of the kitchen and opening of the second floor to the main living level, the home gained an “open plan” feel. By moving the kitchen toward the front of the home, guests are invited into the home and provided with an expanded social venue. The second floor is connected to the existing house through a “bridge” element and the transition to the master suite provides seclusion while the interior finishes offer the desired “spa” quality requested by the owners.
