Harrisburg, PA // New Construction // 2008
Continuing the development in Midtown Harrisburg, these units are yet another step in the revitalization of this once thriving neighborhood. From the outset of the design for the units, our team worked with the client to create desirable homes which responded to new guidelines for Visitable Units. These new design parameters are encouraged by the Pennsylvania Developmental Disabilities Council, the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency, and many other notable organizations nationwide. This type of unit is designed not to be a fully accessible unit, but to provide housing options to individuals with physical disabilities. Features of the design include a zero step entrance at exterior doors of the property, including the front, rear doors; interior passage doors with 32 inches of clear space and a first floor full bath which is large enough to accommodate a wheelchair. Each unit allows an individual with a physical disability to live in the residence without the limitation of having vital functions of daily living to occur above the first floor. The homes provide a positive model and encouragement for other homes in the neighborhood to follow in this new guideline.
